Yesterday Team Acer announced their new StarCrft 2 team, I sad down with the former MYM and MgZ) manager Frederick “Kaoru” Gau to talk about the new team and what the future holds for them.

Hello Kaoru, Acer just announced that they are forming a StarCraft 2 squad. There are some known names mixed by some not so known names can you tell me a bit about the team and the players?

Let’s start on players, when we were in MYM, we wanted to get Nerchio & Osho with Mondragon, because they are 2 very talented players and they are performing very well lately. Let’s say we take a big name with Nerchio and a raising star with Osho. The last player is ParanOid he was one of the best on StarCraft Broodwar and he is doing well lately on StarCraft 2, however he just misses the opportunity to win some cups to come back on the front of the scene!

We didn’t want to have only “Big names” because it is also a duty of teams to help less known people to blow up, that why we made a mix!

About Acer, it is a great support, they are very professional and everything went smoothly with them. I really like their page and their vision of E-sport & Team, they want to do the best support possible for players and bring them in LAN at the best conditions and for me it is the most important thing. Also Acer is one of the biggest company on the market and they know the business, I’m really confident about the future of the Team.

Acer|Mondragon

You got only Zerg players in the line-up and I read that Mondragon, do you see any problem with this?
I don’t think it is a problem to have a full line-up with once race, if players are performing well. Also when we started the adventure with Acer we had the possibility to get those players, and we took this opportunity! After we don’t see any problem about it because as far I remember the Top Team on the 1st opus were heavy oriented on Zerg, and the leader of this team was… Mondragon!

But don’t be scared, if we have the opportunity to add Protoss & Terran, we will do it! If we don’t we will add another Zerg ;P

As a new team with a big sponsors I assume that we will see you guys at the bigger tournaments soon?
Of course, we are going to send our players in any big event, in August we will see Nerchio during the IEM, that will be really great because he will be able to attend to this lan and everyone is waiting him for this event. After we are planning to do to all event where our players are invited or qualified, but we will certainly focus on Europe in a first time, because we have to be sure that everything is going smoothly, we don’t want to rush MLG or Korea, and make mistakes. Blizzard announced his Europe invitational in Warsaw also, if we should be here also!

You has been around in the community for ages what do you think about the future of eSports, specially now when a company like Acer picks up a StarCraft 2 team?
1st of all, you can’t compare E-sport now and 10 years ago, everything has changed, structure as team raised and we got really professional team and huge community and a heavy support from sponsor & companies.TeamLiquid unified all communities around their page, and that make everything easier for making event of getting feedback or viewers for event and Team, and we are at the moment really soon of the “real” professionalism of players, but were still far away from Korea where E-sport is considered as a sport not as a nerd activity.

About company like Acer, i think it is always great to be support by company like it, and I think they understood the latent potential in E-sport, maybe we will see other company who are not “E-sport oriented” come to support Team & event, like in Korea.

About Acer choice to support Team as StarCraft 2, i think it was logical, they started with Trackmania & LoL, now they are getting the most esportable game under their wing, and that was a logical step for them, and now they will do it at full speed, I can’t wait to see how things will be going.
